Aloha, this page is in loving memory of my uncle, Gregory Caruana, whose legacy and bravery continue to inspire us.
Assistant Steward Gregory Caruana, son of Carmnu and Vitoria Caruana, embarked on a remarkable journey when he joined the Royal Navy on February 18th, 1936, his 18th birthday. When he stepped foot on the majestic Aircraft Carrier HMS Glorious deck, Gregory's unwavering dedication and commitment to service shone brightly.
Gregory proudly served aboard the HMS Glorious for four years, navigating the vast oceans with courage and determination. His time on board was marked by camaraderie, resilience, and a profound duty to his country.
Tragically, on the fateful day of June 8th, 1940, Gregory Caruana's life was forever intertwined with the pages of history in a harrowing battle against the German battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, the HMS Glorious and her brave crew faced insurmountable odds. Despite their bravery and steadfast resolve, more than 1,200 souls, including Gregory Caruana, were lost at sea.
Gregory's sacrifice is a poignant reminder of the immense courage displayed by those who have dedicated their lives to protecting others. His memory lives on in the hearts of his loved ones, forever cherished for his selflessness, bravery, and unwavering commitment to duty.
As we honor the memory of Assistant Steward Gregory Caruana, we pay tribute to all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. May their courage and sacrifice never be forgotten, and may their legacy continue to inspire future generations.
